Weight Loss - Water

Water is not only essential to any weight loss diet but to the very existance of every living being. Without water we would die within a few days due to de-hydration and organ failure. There are generally two ways your body gets its water intake, by drinking the water (which includes any liquid we drink) and through extracting the water within the food we eat.

How can water help you to loose weight?

There are three ways in which water can directly help your weight loss program:

  • The liver directly effects your body fat and weight loss. The liver's job is to convert the stored fat into energy, this metabolism of fat is directly influenced by the amount of water you drink. The liver also acts as a backup for the kidney, which needs plenty of water to work properly. This means that when the kidneys are not functioning properly the liver kicks in to help out, which diverts it from its primary function of metabolising the stored fat.
  • Every food we eat contains water. The brain knows this and recognises that it can hydrate the body by eating food. Research has shown that often when we get hungry, we are not actually hungry for food, but that we are actually simply thirsty. It is recommended that when you feel hungry you drink two cups of water and then wait fifteen minute to see if your hunger has gone away.
  • Drinking cold water helps your body to burn more calories in a weight loss program. This is because your body needs to burn calories to raise the water temprature to your body's temprature, however, the advantage is that normal water has zero calories, which means your body ends up burning more calories.

How much water should you be drinking?

Its a well known fact that most people don't drink enough water. This is because our daily life life style prevents us from drinking regularly and often. In addition, when people first start to drinking the amount they should, they tend to contantly be going to the toilet. But, this is only because the body trying to ride itself of years of stored water. So how much water should you be drinking? The recommended daily amount is 8 glasses of water per day. It is important that you do not drink exccesively either, This will result in you flushing out the estential minerals from your body. Water also has the added benefit that it helps you look younger and reduce your wrinkles.

Do remember to stop drinking water at least 3 hrs before going to bed. This stops you constantly getting up in the middle of night to visit the toilet.

How cold should the water be?

Cold water is prefered as it is absorbed easier by the stomach, and, it also helps you to burn more stored fat.

weight-loss plansWeight loss plans

There are a number of VERY dangerous diet plans used to target weight loss. A dangerous, or misleading, diet is one which provides "rapid" result. Remember, in order for a diet to be effective and safe, your body needs time to adjust to the change in your lifestyle. This is because rapid dieting will almost always have health consequences, and in fact research has also shown that as soon as your body adjusts to the diet, you will start to put on weight at even a higher rate than before.
