How do Weight Loss Carbohydrate Blockers help?

These supplements rely on a form of protein called Phaseolamin to bind the carbohydrate molecules and prevent them from being absorbed by the small intestine. Phaseolamin is a high potency form of the white kidney bean extract, which is also known as Phaseolus Vulgaris. It reduces the production of the starch-digesting enzyme called Alpha-Amylase which reduces the bodily absorption of the carbohydrate.

Are Weight Loss Carbohydrate Blockers effective?

Laboratory tests has shown Phaseolamin to be effective in preventing Carbohydrate from being digested by the enzymes found in the small intestine. However, the clinical studies showed that the enzymes found in the small intestine digested Phaseolamin before it had time to take effect. In addition, Mayo Clinic's research showed that in order for Phaseolamin to inhibit the Carbohydrate digestion, 4000mg to 6000mg needs to be consumed. This how ever falls short of the 500mg found in most supplements. So even if the Phaseolamin was not digested before it had a chance to be effective, the dosage found in supplements make them ineffective as a weight loss supplement. N.B. Pharmachem Laboratories, Inc. is claimed to have come up with a variant to Phaseolamin. Its called "Phaseolamin 2250" or "Carbohydrate Blocker Phase 2" which is claimed to resist the digestion by the body's enzymes.
