Weight Loss and Fat Burners

Weight loss supplements, or Fat Burners, are effective in helping you lose weight. But it is important to understand that they are only effective as part of an over all weight loss program. At the time of writing this article there were no Fat Burners that can help you to lose any significant weight without being part of a proper weight loss program. You should also appreciate that there are some inevitable side effects associated with using Fat Burners. These side effects can range from sleep disorder to more serious heart conditions. It is however important to point out that in most countries the supplements that have been causing heart problems have been banned.

Different weight loss supplements take different approaches to helping people to lose weight. The most common of which are:

  1. Thermogenic Fat Burners
Thermogenic weight loss supplements rely on ingredients that stimulate the central nervous system. By stimulating the central nervous system the body's core temperature is slightly increased which leads to tend to an increase in the metabolic rate. It is, however, important to point out that the increase in the metabolic rate is slight, but, even a slight increase in the metabolic rate will result in a loss of more calories for weight loss.
  2. Stimulant-Free Fat Burners
These supplements are free from stimulants such as caffeine, Ephedrine or Xenedrine. These are safer than the supplements that rely on ingredients that stimulate the metabolic rate, but, they also take longer to achieve result, and the results are not as significant as the other fat burners.
  3. Carbohydrate Blockers
Weight Loss Carbohydrate Blockers are used to reduce the amount of carbohydrates digested. Weight Loss Carbohydrate blockers can be used in conjunction with other fat burners. However, there are also risks associated with using these supplements (As there are with any low carbohydrate diets). These supplements are only safe if used for short periods of time (for that matter, nor should you use any other fat burners continuously).
  4. Fat Blockers
Weight Loss Fat Blockers tend to use an ingredient called Chitosan. Chitosan binds itself to the fat in the digestive tract and prevents it from being stored by the body. It can trap as much as seven times its weight in fat! As with Carbohydrate blockers, there are risks associated with using Fat Blockers. This is because as you block the digestive tract from absorbing fat, you will also prevent your body from absorbing certain fat dependent vitamins. Fat blockers cause absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K to be impaired.

Fat blockers also block the absorption of the essential fatty acids. Some healthy fat is necessary on your diet as your body relies on them for absorption of vitamins, as well as, the normal functioning of your brain. It is important not to rely on Fat Blockers or Carbohydrate Blockers for long periods.
  5. Thyroid Hormone Increasers/ Regulators
Weight Loss Thyroid Hormone supplements are designed to target the hormones that control the Metabolic Rate. People with over active thyroid glands also tend to be slimmer. This is because the body produces excess thyroid hormones that results in weight loss as well as other symptoms. The Thyroid Hormone Increasers are supplements that increase the body's natural production of thyroid hormones.

The side effects of taking supplements that increase the thyroids hormonal production range from feeling nervous, irritable to tremors (shaking) and increased heart palpitations. Its even been known to cause hair loss. As with any other weight loss supplement (or fat burners), it is important that you only use these in moderation and do not be tempted to increase the recommended dosage.
  6. Appetite Suppressants
Weight Loss Appetite Suppressants are supplements designed to help you lose weight by suppressing your hunger. The concept is effective in that by reducing your calories intake you will lose weight. Many fat burners and weight loss supplements use Appetite Suppressants as part of their ingredients. As with any weight loss supplements, you must use caution as by reducing your food intake you will also reduce the amount of nutrition your body gets.
  7. Cortisol Products
Weight Loss Cortisol supplements are designed to target the hormone called Cortisol, which is a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands in response to stress. This is because an excess Cortisol in body has been shown to increase the appetite and the ability to store fat. The Cortisol Control Supplements target fat loss by reducing the amount of Cortisol in the body.

weight loss & energy systemThe energy systems

Weight loss is greatly dependent on the energy system your body utilises while exercising. The type of energy system your body utilises depends on how hard you exercise and how fast your heart beats per minute. The Aerobic Energy system uses fat for fuel during exercise where as the Anaerobic energy system burns fat long after the exercise has finished. This is because of the increase in the metabolism rate due to the intensity put on the muscles.
