Weight Loss - Vegetarian

A vegetarian is a person who does not eat meat from animals, be it meat, poultry or fish. However, there are a number of versions of vegetarian. Some refuse to eat anything that has an animal origin to peso-vegetarians who eat eggs, milk and fish.

Are vegetarians healthy?

Following a sensible vegetarian diet is not only healthy, its been proven to be far more healthier than the meat eater's diet. This is mainly due to the fact that a sensible vegetarian diet is very low on saturated fat and bounty full on vitamins, complex carbohydrate, fibre and antioxidants. Research has shown that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, cancer, diverticular disease, gallstones and even appendicitis.

A US research showed that men who become vegetarians became 10% leaner and 40% less likely to develop cancer, and reversed 80% of artery blockages. Its even shown that men who follow a vegan diet are less likely to be impotent. This is because the main cause of impotence is caused by the clogged arteries and food high in saturated fats and cholesterol.

The main danger facing vegetarian is a lack of protein in their diet. Vegans who do not eat dairy product also face a lack of calcium. It is possible to obtain all your nutrition from a sensible vegetarian diet. In fact there are a number of professional athletes who hold world records who are vegans. But it is important that ensure your body gets enough protein, vitamins and minerals to function properly.

weight-loss plansWeight loss plans

There are a number of VERY dangerous diet plans used to target weight loss. A dangerous, or misleading, diet is one which provides "rapid" result. Remember, in order for a diet to be effective and safe, your body needs time to adjust to the change in your lifestyle. This is because rapid dieting will almost always have health consequences, and in fact research has also shown that as soon as your body adjusts to the diet, you will start to put on weight at even a higher rate than before.
